Vote Mary Hosley for Mayor of South Haven: Accountability, Balance, and Consistency

As your candidate for Mayor of South Haven, I am committed to ensuring a fair, transparent, and civil process that considers all perspectives and reaches balanced, thoughtful outcomes for our community. My goal is to advocate for the needs of every resident and work tirelessly to preserve the charm of South Haven while guiding its growth in a sustainable and positive direction.

A Track Record of Accountability & Advocacy

Since taking office as a member of the South Haven City Council in January 2024, I have been dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of our community. Here are some of my key contributions:

  • Short-Term Rental Ordinance Reform: I worked to advocate for reforms that respect the rights of property owners while balancing the need for regulation and community standards

  • Zoning Ordinance Updates: I pushed for critical changes to the draft zoning ordinance to protect residential areas from proposed changes that would have negatively impacted homeowners by allowing larger homes and possibly bigger stormwater runoff issues.

  • Engagement with Ward 3 Residents: I ensure that residents are informed about issues affecting them and that their voices are heard in every decision.

  • Master Plan Update: I have worked to engage our community to gather input for the update of South Haven’s Master Plan, ensuring our City’s future development is aligned with the values and needs of our residents and businesses.

  • Uniform Law Enforcement: I remain committed to advocating for uniform enforcement of local, county, and state laws, ensuring fairness and consistency for all.

Why I Love South Haven:

A Community-Based Approach

I have a deep-rooted connection to South Haven. As a lifelong Michigander, I first fell in love with South Haven while attending Kalamazoo College in the 1980s. My husband, Jay Campbell, and I have visited for years, enjoying everything from bike rides on the Kal-Haven Trail to vacations in this beautiful, welcoming community. In 2020, we made South Haven our permanent home, and we haven’t looked back.

My background as a research chemist and patent attorney with Pfizer has equipped me with a detail-oriented mindset and a passion for solving problems with integrity and diligence. Since retiring in 2021, I’ve become deeply involved in local organizations and initiatives, applying my legal expertise and scientific background to further strengthen our community.

Community Involvement & Advocacy

Beyond my work in local government, I have always been passionate about giving back to South Haven. Some of my key community involvements include:

  • Founder, President and Treasurer of Sharon's TLC Rescue: In honor of Sharon Forbes, I founded and lead this rescue group, which has successfully spayed/neutered numerous cats and placed several kittens in other rescues to find them loving homes.

  • Support for Local Organizations: I proudly support We Care and Safe Harbor, two organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life in South Haven.

  • South Haven History Club: Volunteering with the History Club has been one of the highlights of my community involvement, where I helped students compete at local and state levels.

  • Local Events: I am actively involved in various community events, including placing flags at veterans’ graves, organizing Memorial Day poppy donations, and volunteering at the Historical Association of South Haven’s Ice Cream Social, where my husband and I will be scooping ice cream on June 22, 2025.
